As the nervous murmur of the students became an uproar, I realized that with all the chaos (and assuming that Professor Vortmann was either missing or dead), this would be the perfect time to break into his office and change my grades in his grade-book.
I dashed up two flights of stairs and went to the end of the hall. The door said, "Prof. Vortmann, Chem." I tried the credit card trick that I've seen in the movies a million times, but I slipped and my Discover card fell into the office. Now I had to get in!
Fortunately, the door was unlocked. In fact, it looked as though someone had been there recently, because his papers were a mess...unless he was always this disorganized? But that was hard to believe. I searched through his papers until I found his gradebook. It was too easy...he wrote all his grades in pencil! I quickly moved my D- numbers to B+ numbers.
Suddenly, I heard a voice in the hall.
